Iran Strikes Israeli Airbase with Ballistic Missiles

(MENAFN) Iran's military confirmed Sunday it struck Israel's Ramat David Airbase with ballistic missiles, framing the assault as direct retaliation for Israeli attacks on civilians in southern Lebanon and Beirut's southern suburbs — and issuing stark warnings of far deadlier strikes to come.

In an official statement, Iran's military identified the airbase as a launch point for Israeli operations against Lebanon, adding the strike was carried out "in response to the massacres committed by the Zionist entity (Israel) against civilians in southern Lebanon and the southern suburbs of Beirut."

The military characterized the operation as "a warning," directly accusing both the United States and Israel of repeatedly breaching the April 8 ceasefire agreement. It made clear the consequences of further aggression, warning that any additional attacks would trigger "a broader and more severe" Iranian response, and that "if Israel responds to Iranian attacks or does not stop its attacks on Lebanon, Iranian attacks will continue."

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) escalated the rhetoric further, stating: "Our acceptance of the ceasefire on April 8 was conditional on a halt to hostilities on all fronts; but as always, the US and the Zionist regime did not adhere to their commitment."

The IRGC further accused both parties of continuing their "aggressions and crimes" in Lebanon, and of violating the ceasefire through repeated strikes on Iranian vessels and waters across the Strait of Hormuz, Sea of Oman, and Indian Ocean.

The commander of Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, in a statement carried by Press TV, issued perhaps the most severe warning yet, cautioning that any Israeli expansion of attacks on Beirut's southern suburbs or retaliation against Iran would invite "even more crushing and regret-inducing blows," vowing that "devastating attacks will be launched against the regime and its supporters."

The missile strike follows three waves of Iranian ballistic missiles launched toward northern Israel earlier Sunday — the country's first offensive action since the April 8 ceasefire came into effect, according to Israeli media reports.
